,,Europe"to take over Bosnia

The European empire is acquiring colonies fast. Currently engaged in negotiations with Nato in order to take over the running of Macedonia, the EU has acquired de facto control of Bosnia & Herzegovina to the extent that the new High Representative, Lord Ashdown, has appointed a German and a French deputy but no American. This is the first time there has not been a US deputy in the body which governs Bosnia. It means that the ,,big three"EU states are now in control of the former Yugoslav territory.

None of the EU's smaller member states will be represented, however, which represents a change from the present arrangement under which the present High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, is himself an Austrian (albeit a member of that country's ,,Slovenian minority"). Like Ashdown, Petritsch was a career politician, having spent his life in the Austrian Social Democratic Party. [RFE Newsline, 26th April 2002] Ashdown, although theoretically a member of the opposition in Britain, carried out diplomatic missions on behalf of the British government under Tony Blair during the Kosovo war in 1999.
