EU tries to palliate Poles

The EU is trying to buy off rising Polish opposition to joining the EU. He has said it will give 2.6 billion euros to ,,the Polish countryside"for ,,development aid"during the first three years of Poland's EU membership. It remains, however, determined to limit the level of agricultural subsidy paid to Polish farmers to 25% of what their colleagues are paid in the rest of the EU. [Radio Free Europe Newsline, 17th April 2002] This plan can only have one purpose: to eradicate Polish agriculture by driving Polish farmers out of business while keeping French, Spanish, British and German ones cushioned with subsidies. Poland will thus be turned into even more of a desert than it is already, at which point big Dutch and German agri-businesses will be able to move in and buy up the by then worthless land.
